Windows 7. Who's gonna upgrade? -
10-22-2009, 04:38 AM
It's officially been released today.
Supposedly, Microsoft has fixed a lot of the problems with Vista.
Who's going to upgrade?
I'm going to wait until they come out with a service pack or two, to fix what they missed.

I've been beta testing it and the beta has been more stable than other betas in the past. Windows 7 has been ready for awhile IMHO.
Remember the main problem with Vista was getting driver support from rest of the industry. Oh, and some people were annoyed with the tighter security.

I'm one of those people who had problems with Vista.
I bought a laptop for my trip. It had a fast processor, 4 Gig of RAM, yada yaa yada.
It kept giving me the Blue Screen of Death when I tried to edit RAW files in CS3.
Then it kept giving me the Blue Screen of Death when I tried to upload photos to my SmugMug page.
I returned that turd.
Needless to say, I'm skeptical at best about ANYTHING from the Evil Empire (Microsoft).

I'm remember that. I build my own computers and never buy laptops from the store. The computers at the store are mass produced and given the cheapest components to keep the price down. The operating systems and added software are tweaked by the manufacturer for their benefit not yours. I go online and put in the options I want. It takes longer to get, but it's worked for me and I have yet to send anything back or have it fail. Once I get it I run it hard for the first month to make sure if it's going to break, it's going to break early so I can send it back and get something else. I do have manufactures that I've tried once and have never gone back because of business practices. That way I keep not only myself happy but more importantly my customers.

If i had a pc i'd upgrade considering all the good things i've been hearing. I'd like to build a pc again someday, but I don't really see the point as I'd only want one for gaming

I was at a *unamed store* yesterday and they had some PC's on display. I figured I'd play with the 7 a bit to see what its about and funny thing is they were all password protected and the "sales rep" did not know what the password was. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Which in a sense made them loose a sale being they had a pink laptop and my fiance really wanted it.

To set the record straight BTW. I am NOT a "PC HATER". I do have 2 PC based machines in the house. They just see very little use. I do have some "PC" software that I do need to use and don't see a reason to buy the software that is MAC compatible. I just believe that for what we do (photo editing) Mac is the machine to use and my weapon of choice when doing that sort of work.
I guess its like anything I am passionate about. I have my "weapons of choice" but do not "hate" on other brands.
Photographer - Im a Nikon (But I love all other brands too. (I have a canon and a sony)
Computer - I'm a Mac (I have 2 PC based machines too)
And since someone brought up cars (I LOVE CARS)
My race car is a Civic Si Hatchback. I have made my living in the Import Industry (Tein Suspension, Password:JDM, Urban Racer, Honda Tuning) are SOME of the companies that I have worked for/with. But I also have a Jeep Wrangler, Hummer H3 and have PLANS to get the fiance a VW Eos someday (gotta give the german engineering some love)
Back on topic:
With the release of 7 will anyone STAY with XP? I don't have plans to switch my current machines over anytime soon. (Not sure if the laptop will have enough juice to run 7) I do have a spare (brand new) copy of XP I purchased to have just in case.
I'm sure if I purchase a NEW PC I will have no choice and keep the 7 installed but for my other 2 machines I am thinking leave the XP alone

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I won't "upgrade" until they stop supporting, and I have problems with, XP Pro.

So Johnathan it is true what they say about Macs??? ;-)
Better for the arts than for ......say word processing and other mundane things?
I like being mundane, the Macs are too modern and user friendly for me. I also like big heavy cars.

To me personally I think its all personal preference. I have friends and family that are IT guys that will never buy a mac. Maybe because they know all the ins and outs of a PC. For me to be able to run itunes, be uploading to the server run "Instant messenger" AND edit photos in PS with no hiccups. I LOVE MY MAC.
Side note: If you put your car on a diet it would be faster and handle better HAHAHA

BS! On more than a one occasion you have been Windows bashing through out this site. I'm just sick of the comments. I was reluctant to join this forum just because of all the flame wars you see everywhere else. It's so easy for people to sit behind a computer and say what comes into their head and not realize the consequences of what they say. If you don't have anything useful to say, don't say anything at all, unless it's funny. I wouldn't want to hear from the Windows people either bashing Macs. If someone wants to bash their machine because it failed in some way let them vent but it shouldn't go any further than that.
BTW, I have Windows, Macs, & Linux machines. They have all failed in the past, the OS not the hardware.

I've seen you bash Canon too. Just once though.
If I'm out of line, I apologize to everyone reading this. These little comments are juvenile and if this is what this forum is going to do, than I'm gone. I don't need the aggravation.
