Arrow How To: Save JPGs with EXIF data to post on forum - 03-27-2007, 04:30 AM

When it comes time to saving photos for general web use and/or posting here on the forum I'd like to suggest you use the Save As feature instead of the Save For Web option.

Many people use the Save For Web option but I feel it strips the files of much needed background info. If you use the Save As option and then select the JPG format sure the files become slightly larger but all of the EXIF data is retained.

What good is EXIF data you say? Say for instance if I posted this photo here....

Since I already have Opanda's EXIF Viewer Utiliy (http://www.opanda.com/) installed on my machine all I need to do is simply right click on the image.... and select the VIEW EXIF item.

The window below will then appear giving me all of the vital information associated with the image like camera, make and model, shutter speed, focal length, aperture etc etc

I think this information is great to have available when browsing other people's photographs etc... I know I use it very often.

Can you still see the exif data if a photo was migrated across different websites? for example, today I posted a few pictures, but i didn't have them on the computer i was using, so i downloaded them from myspace, and put them in photobucket from my desktop.
